Retrofitting of Chemical Engineering Building, N.T.U.A., Athens, Greece

Heating
Following a series of simulations using the TRNSYS 14.2 software the following results are obtained, based on a series of energy retrofitting scenarios:
1.1 Heating
- Present energy consumption for heating:
85,5 kWh/m2.
- After the use of a combination of simple energy
conservation measures (scenarios 1-4) the
energy consumption for heating is reduced to
54,4 kWh/m2. A reduction of ~ 34,5%.
1.2 Cooling
- Present energy consumption for cooling:
49 kWh/m2.
- After the use of a combination of 8 retrofitting
scenarios the energy consumption for cooling
is reduced to 13,3kWh/m2. A reduction of
68,6% of energy required for cooling is thus
achieved.

Electrical Energy
Electrical energy for lighting is estimated at 17w/m2 for classrooms, 18,2w/m2 for offices and laboratories and 14 w/m2 for corridors and service spaces.
The implementation of energy conservation measures for artificial lighting proposed in this project, combined with a reduction of indoor illumination levels and the use of improved lighting controls contribute to a reduction of electrical energy consumption by approximately 55%.
